From London with Love 7 de agosto de en/2008

Finally... after 8 days in London I've updated my Blog!!

Everything here is going very well, this is getting better and better everyday! The underground is now totally under control for me, and so the buses (well... almost :p the traffic in the left is still a problem when catching buses, hehe) but everything is still a bit chaotic for me. The rush hour here is infinitely better than in Madrid. In Madrid is really hard to get into the train, but here is even hard to get into the platform at rush hour! At least trains come very often and we are in a well comunicated station, South Kensington, which is in 3 of the main lines (Piccadilly, District and Circle)

The district in which we are living is very cool! (probably the most posh one all over London). There are expensive cars parked everywhere, beautiful houses and clothes shops in which you feel a pain in the wallet just when you reach near the door.

Generally, everything is fu**ing expensive in London. A single undergrond ticket is 4 pounds (4.80€) and with an Oyster card (the cheapest option) is 2 pounds during rush hour and 1.50 pounds the rest of the day (which is 2.40 and 1.80€ respectively). Furthermore, I'm spending a huge amount of money in food... but these days we've already bought cheap things in a supermarket to cook on our own so we won't spent so much money. I hope that the average money spent a day starts decreasing, because now it's about 40 pounds a day.

Last monday (4th) I started my English lessons. The level is quite low, and I'm not actually learning new things, but it's being useful for me to get confident when speaking English and to get used to hear English people speaking... Also, I've met many people in the school, and we're now a quite good group of friends. We're usually about 3 or 5 Italian people (depends on the day), more or less the same Russian people and 2 Spanish (5 when Cris, Luli and Pimen join us). Yesterday we were in a pub having some beers, and it was quite good. Pubs close at 11:30, the closing hours here are a pain...

I've realized that I'm totally unable to remind places. The first day in which I had lessons, we were taken to the classrooms building (in Holborn) from the central office (in Tottenham Court Road) for taking our contact details and making a level test. Then, when I went out of that building, I closed my eyes and avoided looking around at all, so that way in the afternoon I was completely unable to find the place again. Summarizing, I had to walk around all the Holborn district and be more than an hour late to my first lesson. That wasn't enough for me, so the second day I was also late, because in my schedule card seems like it's written 13:45, when what it says is 13:15... anyway, today and yesterday I was in time, and I've not messed with anything again since then.

Using the mobile here is horrible. I've been using the Movistar sim card I had, but with that I have to pay at least 1€ a day for the roaming offer, plus then whatever I spent on calling. So I've decided to buy a T-Mobile card (a local mobile service provider) to be able to call another UK mobile numbers without having to sell my organs in change. The second problem was that my mobile is locked so I can only use it with a Movistar sim card, and they say they can't unlock it untill they receive some information from the manufacturer, which could least more than 15 days... so I've not had any option but buying a new mobile phone for 20 pounds, a Sony Ericsson T250i which is not very good but is quite small and good looking. So you know, if someone wants to give me a call these days, don't use my Spanish number because it's switched off and so will it be untill I'm in Madrid again.

Well, that's all for now... I'm quite tired and it's quite late. I'll probably edit this entry and put some pictures from these days.

Kind regards! Have fun :)
